Why Are You Following?

“…and a great crowd of people followed him because they saw the miraculous signs he had performed on the sick.”

John 6:2

The ministry of Jesus was gathering momentum; people were beginning to come to him for all kinds of different reasons. Some came out of love and devotion as we see from the story of the woman with the alabaster jar, (Luke 7:47) – she loved much.

Some came out of wonder and awe as is recorded in Mark 4:35-41, where the disciples asked one another, “Who is this? Even the wind and waves obey him!”

The religious people of the day came to trap him, (John 8:6), plotted to arrest and kill him, (Matthew 26:3-4).

They all came with different reasons, all different agendas, but nonetheless, they came.

From our opening verse above in John 6:2 it shows us the crowd were following Jesus due to the signs and wonders they were witnessing for themselves. The question that arises from this verse is, “Why are YOU following Jesus?”

Ponder the question; don’t answer hastily or too quickly! For me nothing is more important than the love of Christ. The realisation of God’s love for me is what fuels me to love others in the same way and if I lose that realisation then I really don’t feel I should be in ministry.

Allow the love of God to impact you in a fresh new way this day, come to him out of an act of love, and love him for who he is and not only for what he has done or is doing in your life. Amen.

Blessings,
John & Susan
